D365 F&o



Good Morning Readers, I remember seeing an app on my phone which launches with a message “Love MONDAYS” …….might mean different things for different people. For one it might mean the beginning of the week that gives them another chance to get back to what they love….their job, the challenges that come with it, their friends at work. In my case I would choose posting a new blog post as my reason for me loving this particular Monday. Let’s begin.

Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365FO) is a really sophisticated, robust, and reliable ERP platform. Why would you want D365 Customer Engagement (CE)? There are a couple reasons. Microsoft’s Power Platform really means there is power in the platform!

D365 F&O Financial Dimensions – Derived Dimensions Posted on December 24, 2019 at 9:54 am by Axpedite Software / 1 Comment This feature is used to derive and default the dimension values automatically based on the current dimension value selection while posting transactions or creating master records. In the latest version of D365, when you click on ‘Customize the System’, you will see the PowerApps' custom interface. Then click Data Entities, select one entity, go to its Form tab, open the main form. Here we can see the final style of the form, you can edit the style of the form based on this, which is more intuitive. Shift+F: Move to the standard Action Pane: Alt+M,A or Ctrl+F6: Move to the Filter pane (which may include opening it) Alt+M,F or Ctrl+F3: Move focus to the page content (with focus in the Filter pane) Alt+M,M or Ctrl+F3: Move to the navigation list on Details form (which may include opening it) Alt+M,S or Ctrl+F8.

I have done quite a few imports of data in AX 2012 but had my first brush with it in D365 F&O recently when I was asked to bring in customers and their addresses. Have given the steps that I followed to get this done:

A) Import the customer and its address into Global address book

  • Where’s the GAB Import excel template?

As a first step I would like to start off by exporting existing data from D365 for the Global address book table. This will give me a template that I can readily use to populate the customer data, addresses before importing it back into D365.

Step1: Go to Data management workspace and click on EXPORT, give in a name for the export job and select “Global address book V2” as entity name. Instinct download.

  • This downloaded file is now our template and we can delete the existing rows and fill up the template with customer data like city, telephone number, email, URL.

Important fields to note are:

  • Partynumber, Location Id: For this refer to the Number sequence table and get the next number with the number format and populate this into our excel template
  • Addresslocationroles: In case the address has multiple purposes, give them with a separator as shown above

B) Time to import into GAB in D365

Now that we have populated the data we want to import into the excel template, lets create a new Import Job and then run it to bring the customer record from excel to D365.

Step1: Go to Data management workspace and click on IMPORT, give in a name for the import job

Step2: Click Add file and select “Global address book V2” as entity name. Use the upload and add button to select the excel template file that has data in it.

Step3: Click import to run the process. You should now see the success status of the import Job.

We can now see this record that we had in excel has been imported into global address book screen in D365. Borderlands 2: mechromancer pack download. Remember that this has only updated the GAB table and we have not yet created a new record in customer table.

C) Import the record into Customer table and link it to the GAB table record.

  1. Export template for customer table
    • Follow the same process as above to get hold of a customer table export template. The entity name needs to be as shown below “Customers v3”. Run the export and download the file.
  2. Now that we have a template, we shall populate it with the customer details and Import the same into D365. Fields that need to be cross referenced to the GAB table upload that was imported earlier:
  • AddressLocationId: In the customer table give the same addresslocationid# that you had given in the GAB import file.
  • Partynumber: In the customer table give the same partynumber that you had given in the GAB import file.

Step1: Go to Data management workspace and click on IMPORT, give in a name for the import job

Step2: Click Add file and select “Customers v3” as entity name. Use the upload and add button to select the excel template file that has data in it.

Step3: Click import to run the process. You should now see the success status of the import Job.

I can now see a new record created in the customer master in D365 and it is also linked to the address details that was available for the record in the global address book. Hope this post has been a helpful one, good day!

Configurability

The difference between Business Central and Finance & Operations revolves around a couple of main factors. The first one would be configurability. Business Central is configurable, and you can set it up to meet your needs, but Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is far more configurable and customizable. You have a myriad of options and decisions to make as you implement Finance & Operations, much more so than Business Central. In other words, you can make Finance & Operations do whatever it is you need it to do, whereas Business Central is a bit more limited.

Core Functionality

The next major difference between Business Central and Finance & Operations is core functionality. Business Central and Finance & Operations both do the same major functions. However, Finance & Operations is more robust. One simple example is lot and serial number tracing. Business Central offers full lot and serial number tracing, but Finance & Operations will offer pallet tracking and “license plate” functionality.

Company Size

One indicator of which solution is a better fit for your company is typically company size. Business Central is a great solution for businesses from about $10 million to $250 million of annual revenue, whereas Finance & Operations is going to take over and handle larger businesses from about $100 million up to a billion+. Business Central is a small to mid-market tool, whereas Finance & Operations is for the upper mid-market and large enterprises.

Key Requirements

Lastly, as a Microsoft Dynamics Business Central partner based in Chicago, we get questions on making the ultimate decision between Business Central and Finance & Operations. We often tell people that if you’re looking at both Business Central and Finance & Operations you need to do some more homework because they don’t belong in the same selection process. We tell people to develop a requirements document and look at your requirements against the solutions that you are considering. 10 to, at most, 50 requirements are sufficient. You don’t need an exhaustive list, as the best way to approach a system selection is to define the key requirements in each area of your business. We think focusing on these key requirements will make sure that you satisfy the most important areas as opposed to checking off every box on a list.
